Andrew Cashen Back In Texas
Andrew Cashen is best known for his work in two of Austin's most prolific bands: A Giant Dog and Sweet Spirit. However, the songwriter/guitarist somehow found time to put together this 8 song retro pop gem - Back In Texas - in between recording and touring with those two projects. Cashen spent a couple weeks in the studio with engineer Stuart Sikes (Modest Mouse, Jack White) and Sweet Spirit bandmate Josh Merry (who co-produced Back In Texas with Cashen). The three of them called in a supporting cast of notable Austin musicians to lend an air of Brill Building orchestration: Walker Lukens on keyboard and guitar, Roky Anne Bullwinkel (The Reputations) on vocals, Jim Campo (Magic Rockers of Texas, Go Fever) on keyboards and bass, Graham Low (A Giant Dog) on cello and bass, Andy Bianculli (Star Parks) on guitar and keyboards, and others. Cashen also chose to sing primarily in his baritone range, lending a distinct 50's crooner style to the tracks. The result is a vintage pop record pulling from some fifty years of influences.
