Bull of the Woods is their third and final studio album, released in 1969, and has long been out of print and unavailable on vinyl. Emerald City Nights: Live At The Penthouse 1966-1968 is the third set of previously unreleased recordings of the iconic pianist Ahmad Jamal, captured live at the Penthouse jazz club in Seattle with bassist Jamil Nasser and drummer Frank Gant. This RSD Black Friday release features a deluxe 2 LP on 180g vinyl in gatefold jacket includes an extensive booklet with rare photos and essays. Also included are interviews with pianists Les McCann, Monty Alexander and Emmet Cohen, plus producer Marshall Chess of Chess/Argo Records and others.

In total, there are 12 minutes of unreleased music – mostly from super composer Alan Silvestri (The Avengers, Forrest Gump, Back to the Future) – though none of the content has been released on vinyl until now. It marked the first of three full-length collaborations with producer Prince Paul, which would become the critical and commercial peak of both parties. When Village Voice held its annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll for 1989, 3 Feet High and Rising was ranked #1. DEATH, the heavy metal institution founded, realized, and helmed by legendary guitarist Chuck Schuldiner, released the Individual Thought Patterns album (the follow-up to their watershed Human release) in 1993. Expectations were high following Human, but Schuldiner proved once again that he could rise to any occasion. Individual Thought Patterns further honed the forward-thinking and progressive direction birthed with Human and included “The Philosopher,” arguably the best song to ever come from the world of extreme metal and to this date the most widely-recognized.This RSD Black Friday title is a previously unreleased complete album remaster of the original mix of Individual Thought Patterns by Alan Douches at West West Side, pressed on White Inside of Black Ice with Splatter vinyl.

With his big, warm, round-toned sound, sophisticated phrasing, and hip quotes, Dexter Gordon was one of the major forces on the tenor saxophone from the mid-1940s until his death in 1990. Gordon was cited by both Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane as a major influence on their playing and is acknowledged as a jazz icon.The popularity of mainstream jazz was on the decline in the States during the 1960s. The Vietnam war and racial turmoil were in high gear, and many of the music’s top-flight musicians, including Gordon, migrated to Europe in order both to escape and to make a living playing jazz. Gordon eventually settled in Copenhagen, Denmark. During this period, he usually played and recorded backed by a piano trio, but this 1969 recording is different. The usual quartet has been expanded with some of those premiere jazz ‘refugees’, each a major voice on his instrument, assembled for the session.One of the great modern jazz trombonists, Slide Hampton, is also a composer/arranger of note. The album was a collaborative venture between Gordon and Hampton, and three of the compositions and all the arrangements on the album are his. The classy Jamaican trumpeter Dizzy Reese completes the front line. The rhythm section includes two jazz giants who were Gordon’s constant companions at Copenhagen’s famous Club Montmartre, fellow American expatriate pianist Kenny Drew and the great Danish bassist N-H Örsted-Peterson. The Gordon/Drew pairing is one of the classic horn-/piano matchups in jazz, and has often been compared with the Miles Davis/Red Garland and John Coltrane/McCoy Tyner pairings. Art Taylor, who “helped define the sound of modern drumming”, was brought in from Paris to complete the all-star rhythm section.

The Body-Hat Syndrome is the third album from the rap group Digital Underground. The album's second single, an anti-racism cultural awareness politico called "Wussup Wit the Luv," features a solo from the Funkadelic guitarist Michael Hampton, as well as a verse and video appearance by Tupac Shakur. This was the last time Shakur appeared on any Digital Underground release. The album also contains "The Humpty Dance Awards," the group's humorous shout-out to the many artists who sampled "The Humpty Dance" before 1993 (since then the list has grown to more than 50 artists). The Body-Hat Syndrome, originally released on October 5, 1993, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It has only been released as a special Italian vinyl version making this RSD Black Friday the first time it will be released on vinyl globally.

In early 1973 Gram Parsons embarked on a tour to promote his recently released first solo album, GP. Gram put together a pretty great band, including the then-unknown Emmylou Harris as his singing partner. The shows were somewhat uneven at first, but by midtour the band started to find its groove.One show stood out to pedal steel player Neil Flanz: the third night at the Bijou Cafe in Philadelphia. Neil felt that this was the best show of the tour and requested a copy of the soundboard recording. He saved it for almost forty years, and then it was acquired by Amoeba Music for a future Gram release. It then disappeared in the Amoeba vault for another ten years before it was rediscovered when Amoeba moved to a new location in LA.It turns out Neil was right. This is Gram and Emmylou at their finest. And it’s the next to last club date ever for Gram and the Fallen Angels. A 50-year-old soundboard cassette offers some unique challenges, but thanks to the efforts of some of the world’s best archival sound restoration engineers, the beauty and energy of Gram, Emmy and the band shine through.

Garcia and Grisman were friends and collaborators for over three decades, with Grisman’s playing famously featured on the classic Grateful Dead album American Beauty. Joined by sidemen from Grisman's regular band (bassist Jim Kerwin, Joe Craven on percussion, and, on two numbers, flutist Matt Eakle), the co-leaders perform three versions of Miles Davis' "So What," two of apiece of Milt Jackson’s "Bag's Groove” and Davis' "Milestones," and one of Grisman's "16/16.” A rare opportunity to hear Garcia playing straight-ahead jazz music, a genre which he loved but rarely performed. The album is finally coming to vinyl for its 25th anniversary with a double LP.

Keith’s guitar parts for “Heavy Voodoo” and its dubplate companion “Who Dares Dub” were recorded during New York City sessions for the 2008 Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry album, Scratch Came, Scratch Saw, Scratch Conquered. Shortly after Keith’s contributions were laid down, Scratch set to work at his home in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, jamming live on mic alongside Keith’s new guitar parts. Lee’s Swiss mountain lair was not strictly for recording, but the combination art studio, shrine and junk yard with its view of a valley and up into the snow-capped Alpine peaks, added its own influence to the recordings. Captured on portable recording gear with Lee using his special sacred jewel-encrusted Shure microphone, the Voodoo was indeed heavy that day.

Creative Improvisation Ensemble captures the meeting of two avant-garde giants, Marion Brown and Wadada Leo Smith, on May 12, 1970 in Paris, France. The session finds Brown and Smith on their primary instruments, alto saxophone and trumpet respectively, with both musicians performing various percussion instruments as well. The release marks the latest edition of Org Music’s Freedom Records reissues series, mastered for vinyl by Dave Gardner and pressed at Pallas Group on transparent red audiophile-grade vinyl. The album has not been pressed on vinyl since its original release in 1975.

This release faithfully re-creates the original one-sided promo 12” for the single “Gett Off” that introduced Prince’s new band. The cover and label proclaimed, “Nothing can stop…Prince and the New Power Generation” and the release contains the “damn near 10 min” mix of the song on one side with a blank flip side. The original version was provided to radio and club DJs as a promo on Prince’s 33rd birthday (June 7, 1991) and only 1,500 copies were created. Not originally planned to be included on the 1991 album Diamonds and Pearls, the response to the track was so strong that an edited version was added to the album and became a successful single.

This is Schoolly D’s 1985 debut, first issued on his own imprint (and five years later on Jive), produced by Schoolly D and DJ Code Money. A heavy influence on Public Enemy, Ice-T, the Beastie Boys and more – Schoolly D is presented for RSD Black Friday in an exclusive color vinyl pressing.

In early 1991 Screaming Trees were in a shambles. Mark Pickerel had left the band a year earlier and Van was off playing bass for Dinosaur Jr. Mark Lanegan and Gary Lee Conner were set to continue with Donna Dresch on bass and a friend of hers on drums. Uncle Anesthesia, the band’s first major label album, on Epic, had just been released. While it seemed that working with the new band members might work, Gary Lee was despondent at the prospect of again playing in the band without his brother as Van had already quit and come back once in 1988. He came up with a plan to ask his brother to return to the Trees if he could get Van’s good friend Dan Peters, who was on a partial hiatus from Mudhoney, to play drums with the band. It worked, Van flew home and the band started rehearsals and soon was touring for the new Epic album.During this time Screaming Trees went into Conrad Uno’s Egg Studio in Seattle to record a couple of demo tracks. After finishing, Mark Lanegan uncharacteristically suggested they record a live set while all the gear and microphones were set up. All alone in Uno’s Seattle basement, the Trees kicked some rock and roll ass. No audience, no cheering crowd but raw Trees power nonetheless. Here is that session which sat unheard for over 30 years. It’s a great testament to why Screaming Trees are remembered as one the Northwest’s most exciting and intriguing live bands. Pressed on white and yellow “fried egg” colored vinyl.

Splinter was comprised of duo Bill Elliot and Bobby Purvis, and their blend of folk, pop, and rock were introduced to Dark Horse Records founder George Harrison in 1973. Harrison was quick to spot their potential and made them one of the first signings to his new label.The band’s debut album The Place I Love was produced by Harrison and features extensive guitar work by the legendary musician, as well as contributions from Billy Preston, Jim Keltner, and Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) and Gary Wright (Spooky Tooth and “Dream Weaver.”)

Although many metalheads probably assume that Swedish guitar shredder Yngwie J. Malmsteen's first U.S.-based band was Alcatrazz, he was a brief member of another obscure Los Angeles-based metal band called Steeler. The group also featured future Keel frontman Ron Keel (bassist Rik Fox and drummer Mark Edwards also rounded out the band), and the quartet's music was similar to the pop/party metal that was ruling the Sunset Strip at the time. The band was one of the first to be signed to Mike Varney's Shrapnel label (one that has since become synonymous with highly technical guitar shredders), resulting in a lone self-titled release from 1983 before their breakup shortly thereafter. Although the album failed to make much noise upon release, it became a cult classic for fans after Malmsteen and Keel.This RSD Black Friday release is pressed on clear red vinyl.

Level Headed was without doubt the most distinctive album Sweet ever produced. It is both varied in itself and very different from almost anything that they had released before. In a lot of ways, it was Sweet taking a risk. It shows many aspects of the band that are easily overlooked on previous albums and unseen aspects for the first time. The album gave them their final Top Ten hit with the dreamy "Love Is Like Oxygen," a single that has become a staple for the band. This release includes never released alternative mixes and demos from the original release. Pressed on Clear Blue Vinyl.

Featuring three co-writes by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and guitar guests like Stephen Carpenter of the Deftones and Jonah Matranga of Far and Onelinedrawing, Taproot's Blue-Sky Research tapped a more melodic vein than its predecessors and sold well in 2005 on the strength of such singles as "Calling" and "Birthday." Intoxicated Demons: The EP is the debut extended play by American hip-hop trio The Beatnuts. It was released in 1993 by Relativity Records and was produced exclusively by The Beatnuts. The project consisted of two singles, "Reign of the Tec" and "No Equal," in addition to eleven cuts and five skits, spanning a total length of twenty-five minutes. Upon release, reviewers praised the album for its blend of jazzy boom bap, syncopated lean drum machines and a myriad of jazz, funk and soul samples. For the 30th anniversary, Intoxicated Demons: The EP will be released on Red vinyl exclusively for RSD Black Friday.

The Bottle Rockets rank right up there with Uncle Tupelo in the annals of the alt-country movement; in fact, main songwriter Brian Henneman worked with Uncle Tupelo as a guitar tech and occasional contributor before forming the band. Now, with the full cooperation of the Bottle Rockets, Real Gone Music is reissuing their early records, starting with the classic self-titled debut record, making its vinyl debut on maroon wax for its 30th anniversary. Having left the Fun Boy Three at the end of their 1983 US tour, Terry Hall went straight into forming his next group, The Colourfield. Teaming up with former 2Tone labelmates Toby Lyons and Karl Shale (The Swinging Cats) for the band, The Colourfield launched on legendary UK TV music show The Tube, with their debut single “The Colourfield” in January 1984 and followed up later with their second single “Take”. Their debut album followed in early 1985, which contained the hit single “Thinking of You”, as well as subsequent single “Castles In The Air”. Later in the year they released a couple of non-album singles, “I Can’t Get Enough of You Baby” and “Things Could Be Beautiful” (produced by longtime friend, musician/producer Ian Broudie).By the time of their follow-up album, 1987’s Deception, they had dropped to a duo. Launched with a cover of the Sly & The Stone classic “Running Away” and produced by Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Go Go’s, Scritti Politti), the album fared less well and its final single was a cover of the Bobby Hart/Tommy Boyce track “She”, made famous by the Monkees.This RSD Black Friday release collects those singles and others, on 140g Trans Blue vinyl.

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Live from the Northwest, 1959 is the newest release from Brubeck Editions, the family run label that only puts out music of the highest musical and technical quality. These exciting performances were recorded by the trailblazing and iconic audio engineer, Wally Heider, who pioneered the art of remote recording from his "studio on wheels". The sound he achieved is stellar, and this is perhaps the best live recording you can hear of one of the most popular jazz groups of all time. The tapes were recorded in April 1959 at the Multnomah Jazz Club and Clark College, both in the Portland Oregon area. Four months later, the Dave Brubeck Quartet recorded their legendary LP, Time Out, and changed the course of jazz forever. This new LP showcases the poll-winning quartet at the peak of their improvisational powers, especially demonstrating their unique mastery of improvising counterpoint (a musical device updated from Bach) while swinging through jazz standards and original compositions.

Three months after the release of their classic album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, the Flaming Lips played a small show at The Paradise Lounge in Boston for the local alternative radio station WBOS. The small crowd of competition winners and invited fans were treated to a 40 minute set that included “Do You Realize??” and “Fight Test”, plus covers of Pink Floyd’s “Lucifer Sam” and Beck’s “The Golden Age”. The World is a Ghetto was WAR's 1973 funk/R&B/latin fusion jam, which became the top-selling record in America that year. It features "Cisco Kid," inspired by the popular mid-century TV show, instrumental jam "City, Country, City," “Four Cornered Room”, “Beetles In The Bog”, “Where Was You At,” and the title track (which has been sampled in more than 31 hip-hop songs, including tracks by Geto Boys, Ice T-, and A$AP Mob). This release features the progressions of the two key tracks (“Cisco Kid” and “The World Is A Ghetto”), and alternate takes/reimaginings of the remaining tracks.

Maggots: The Record is the fourth studio album by American rock singer Wendy O. Williams and her band Plasmatics. It is often credited as being the first "Thrash Metal Opera." This comes largely because of the album follows the rock opera formula done in a form of thrash metal. Peter Lee started this band after being shot in a failed carjacking attempt. The idea for X-Cops sparked while filming a commercial segment for Gwar’s Skulhedface. Lee and Dave Brockie were dressed as police officers and Lee pondered, “What would be cooler than a bunch of cops playing kick-ass rock and roll?” This led to Lee, Brockie and GWAR’s drum technician, Mike Dunn, starting X-Cops as a three-piece band.You Have the Right to Remain Silent is more metal-oriented than what GWAR was releasing at the time (1995), with speed metal riffs, drums & relentless energy.
