Austra Chin Up Buttercup

  • Domino Record Co
  • Alternative, Electronic
“I’m so chaotic in love,” sings Katie Austra Stelmanis on “Amnesia,” the cinematic opening track of Chin Up Buttercup, the fifth album by her alter ego and longtime pop project Austra. You know Austra’s astonishing voice – singular and operatic, it betrays a fearlessness and sophistication. She’s the woman you’d be afraid to approach in a bar. Her voice draws you like a siren to the dance floor as the beats build toward the hypnotic chorus of “my life is not the same without you in my arms.” Listen closely and you’ll hear a vulnerability that sets this album apart from her earlier work. This is a grief album you can dance to. Stelmanis and co-producer Kieran Adams shared a mutual love of pop divas, Eurodance and hard-to-find techno. Madonna’s 1998 album Ray of Light, produced by William Orbit, was a key influence in the later stages of album making: “Ray of Light was produced almost entirely on a Juno-106 and a Korg MS-20 which we’d been using, so the reference point was aligned,” says Stelmanis. The album sounds like a mix of hypnotic dance floor anthems and elegant melodies to soothe your broken heart. A1. ‎Amnesia A2. Math Equation A3. Siren Song A4. Chin Up Buttercup A5. Fallen Cloud B1. AVTT/PTTN (The Avett Brothers and Mike Patton) AVTT/PTTN

  • Ramseur Rec.
  • Alternative, Experimental, Rock, Soundtrack
Scott and Seth Avett are the brothers behind the chart-topping, Grammy-nominated band The Avett Brothers. Mike Patton is the journeyman rock icon best known as the frontman of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. These three are proud to unveil a new album and project. Together, they are AVTT/PTTN. AVTT/PTTN finds these three kindred spirits on equal footing as songwriters and collaborators, no one party seeming to hold greater creative influence over the other. Throughout the record, there’s an ease and musical seamlessness to how these first-time collaborators lock in with each other. After the secret labor of making AVTT/PTTN was finished, the emotional weight of the project—its beauty and its vulnerability—finally landed on all three of them. In Mike, the Avett brothers had found a collaborator with whom they could cut the small talk and dig deep right away. They made music born from mutual respect, trust, and an inherent understanding of where each person was coming from. 1. Dark Night of My Soul2. To Be Known3. Heaven's Breath4. Too Awesome5. Featuring novel and tight live takes on most of the album’s tracks - several performed for the first time ever - with additional back catalog tracks to round out this dynamic and raw set. “Considered by many (including me) to be DBT’s masterpiece, this is the ultimate version of Decoration Day, sounding better than ever with an expanded presentation of Wes Freed’s iconic artwork and expansive liner notes by Stephen Deusner. Plus a very special live performance of an acoustic set from Athens, GA’s iconic Flicker Bar. We recorded the basic tracks for our Decoration Day album in late May / early June 2002 in Athens GA. On June 20, DBT was nominated for several awards at the Athfest / Flagpole Music Awards. We all dressed up in vintage suits and performed several songs at the beautiful Morton Theatre in downtown. We decided that it would be fun to go play an acoustic late night show at the tiny Flicker Bar, less than a block away from our beloved 40 Watt Club. We ended up playing a set that included all but one song off of our new but still unfinished album. . This is a beautiful document of our band at a very crucial and joyous moment in time. I’m so happy that it exists and we’re thrilled to present it to you as part of our Decoration Day celebration. - Patterson Hood (May 2025)

Jake Xerxes Fussell & James Elkington Rebuilding

  • Crowded Table / Fat Possum Records
  • Acoustic, Folk, Instrumental, Soundtrack
Acclaimed songwriters Jake Xerxes Fussell and James Elkington have collaborated on their first original film score for Rebuilding, the poignant new feature film written and directed by Max Walker-Silverman. The film, which stars, among others, Josh O’Connor, Lily LaTorre, and Kali Reis, made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Following up new work from both artists in 2025 – Fussell released his fifth album in July, while Elkington shared a sprawling new double LP back in March – the soundtrack is a natural meeting point for the pair’s individual work, formed of textural pieces that fold beautifully into the hushed drama of the film. Producer Dan Janvey initially recommended Fussell’s music to Walker-Silverman - who immediately saw potential. “ I could hear the cinema in it right away. His music is rooted firmly in all the folkloric traditions I love but not at all nostalgic. And that was much like the film we were making; a story in which the past is all around but firmly of the here and now. And since so much of his music has no lyrics, Jake already understood the challenge of telling a story through instrumentation alone.”

Ragana & Drowse Ash Souvenir

  • La Vida Es Un Mus
  • Black metal, Doom, Doom metal, Metal
In May of 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted and everyone in the Pacific Northwest was touched by it's ash, it's destructiveness, and it's story, a shared experience that became an ash souvenir. Ash Souvenir is the collaborative album by Drowse (Kyle Bates) and Ragana (Maria and Noel), conceived in a shared sense of grief and collective memory rooted in the Pacific Northwest.Ash Souvenir was originally commissioned by and premiered at the 2024 edition of Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. Afterwards, the trio recorded the album at the legendary Unknown studio in Anacortes, Washington.Ash Souvenir confronts grief. During the writing process, Maria and Kyle were both in a painful, transitional period, moving back to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to struggling loved ones. This return home and the emotions it stirred echoed in Noel's own inherited history. Their grandmother escaped occupied Latvia in the 1940s and began a new life in the United States, eventually spending her final 25 years in a hand-built log cabin deep in the woods outside Shelton, Washington. Surrounded by fir and aspen, she lived in quiet self-reliance, her days shaped by isolation and resilience. The album combines Ragana's heavy, emotionally charged metal with Drowse's textural approach to sound. Across four long-form pieces, the trio's voices and instruments move between stark intimacy and overwhelming intensity, culminating in a collective refrain: "there is nothing to lose."Ash Souvenir is a sublime experience, conjuring both the power of a devastating eruption and the eerie stillness that lingers in it's wake, ashen memories drifting through night air before rejoining the earth.Ragana have carved their niche as pioneers of the Pacific Northwestern queer black metal scene. They have released five albums since their formation in 2012, with 2023's Desolation's Flower as their first for The Flenser. Kyle Bates specializes in moody, glacial drone as Drowse, a vision that has spanned across five albums since beginning the project in 2018. His most recent, "Wane into It," came out in 2022 on The Flenser, followed by a split LP in 2023 with Portland-based experimentalist Amulets.

Runo Plum Patching

  • Winspear
  • Folk, Indie
Patching, the intimate debut LP from Minnesota-based singer and songwriter runo plum, gracefully captures the contraction, expansion and release of an intense period of emotional repair, in soft-edged, radiating indie rock. The record's unbridled sincerity isn't anything new for runo plum, who's been writing and quietly sharing bedroom dispatches of her intricate folk for a half-decade. During the pandemic years, she steadily caught the ears of a widening circle of listeners and began independently releasing a series of singles and EPs, all while cutting her teeth on the live side supporting Searows, Angel Olsen and Hovvdy.

Sword II Electric Hour

  • section1
  • Alternative, Electronic, Experimental, Indie rock
In a rundown house in Atlanta, where the basement flooded, the air smelled like mildew, and the landlord tried to evict them for using it as an "electronic rock band facility," Sword II made the most ambitious, accessible, and electrically charged music of their lives. Electric Hour marks Sword II's first fully cohesive statement after working in an experimental, song-by-song mode. From psych and hardcore punk to a sense of drama and theatricality, they've forged a raw, unadorned, defiant sound.

Bros. Landreth Dog Ear

  • Birthday Cake Media
  • Folk, Rock, Roots
Dog Ear is the fourth full-length album from acclaimed Americana band The Bros. Landreth. It is a product of spending a lot of time on the road together touring their last album Come Morning and a 10th Anniversary release of their debut album Let it Lie. They came back from tour energized by their live chemistry and tried to write and record with that same energy and spirit. The result is an album that is injected with the live energy of their shows, but also the careful tenderness and production work they are known for.The album is about figuring out what it means to be a consistent and present force for the people in your life that you care about. To show up and be there for your friends, your kids, your brother, your bandmates, your partner. This album, in a way, is leaving behind little crumbs of the things they hold dear. Hopefully these crumbs lead you to the heart of the things they hold dear. It's about leaving something behind for their kids too. Like folded dog-ear corners in a well-loved book, it marks the history and love in your life for others to find later, to keep you from losing your place.Dog Ear is full of rip-roaring guitar-driven romps, tender introspection, vocal harmonies, wild tones and lots of love and care. The album also features two magical appearances from Bonnie Raitt and one from Begonia. They both imbued a wonderful vocal counterpoint to Dave and Joey's sound to create some truly special moments.
