Almost Waking is a collaborative album from Guatemalan cellist, vocalist, and composer Mabe Fratti and acclaimed experimental guitarist Bill Orcutt. The project began after the two connected online, with Orcutt sending Fratti a series of solo guitar recordings that became the foundation for the album. Fratti and collaborator I. La Católica developed cello arrangements and vocal melodies around Orcutt’s distinctive guitar work, resulting in a collection of spacious, melodic pieces with a strong nostalgic atmosphere. Blending Fratti’s avant-pop and electroacoustic sensibilities with Orcutt’s raw, improvisational approach, the album balances careful composition with an organic, exploratory spirit. Recorded in Mexico City and San Francisco, Almost Waking features guitar by Bill Orcutt and cello and vocals by Mabe Fratti, with additional arrangement contributions from I. La Católica on select tracks. The album was mixed by Santiago Parra and mastered by James Plotkin.

MONO’s Snowdrop was recorded in the wake of the passing of longtime collaborator Steve Albini, who had previously worked with the band on their 2023 album OATH. For Snowdrop, MONO worked with producer Brad Wood, recording at Electrical Audio in Chicago alongside conductor Chad McCullough, a 10-piece orchestra, and an 8-piece choir.
